Biography
Beverley (b1970) is an emerging abstract artist living by the sea with her husband and one of her two adult sons. From her home studio in Merewether Heights, Australia, she produces colourful, bold and joyful works using the medium of oil and cold wax. A lesser known medium, the process allows Beverley to experiment, building layer upon layer of pigmented wax, along with unconventional mark-making, resulting in the many veils of colour and texture. The response to Beverley’s work is often the feeling of not only wanting to look closer but the urge to touch the wax and to actually feel the history of those layers.
Beverley paints because she must. It is her coping mechanism for her life. A 15 year career as a successful Make-Up Artist working internationally in the tv, music and film industries is behind her, she now finds herself predominantly bed and house bound. A complex mix of neurological, autonomics and chronic pain conditions ensures she is rarely able to leave her home, therefore her art has necessarily become her raison d’etre. Each painting an expression of the joy she finds in the smaller things.
